Wakefield General Practice Workforce Survey - latest results

Image
Submissions to the General Practice Workforce Survey toolkit was again 100% for practices in Wakefield at the end of Q2 2017/18. This compared to a response rate of 55% at the end of Q1. The improved performance is because the Academy Co-ordinator proactively contacted practices before the submission deadline to ensure that they had submitted data. The number of practices in Wakefield has fallen from 38 to 36 but the report still does not reflect further practice mergers that have taken place. Below is a summary of the latest data compared with the last reliable quarter data (Q4 16/17). This is a graph of workforce trends over the four years we have been collecting data for. Looking at the data at the end of Q2 17/18 compared with Q4 16/17: The number of wte GPs in Wakefield has reduced from 232 to 212 There is continued low risk from retirement of GPs The number of practice nurses has reduced from 152 to 137 There is continued high risk...

Wakefield District GP Target Evaluation and Answers!

Image
Wakefield District GPs attended a training afternoon at Pontefract Racecourse on Wednesday 18th October. The session was titled 'Meet Oscar'. OSCAR is a new referral support service that has been launched to help Wakefield GPs refer patients to the most appropriate service and 'Meet Oscar' sounded like a really snappy title to get GPs interested. But the main agenda for the day was about how Wakefield General Practices will need to change to meet the challenges of increasing workload, stretched financial resources and a GP workforce shortage. 200 Wakefield GPs attended and we had 50 completed evaluations. Attendees were asked to score presentations and workshops out of five. All of the presentations and workshop sessions scored more than three. We used slido to get attendees to ask questions of our speakers and below is an infographic of the main themes from questions attendees asked: We also asked for free text comments. The comments were very interesting and t...

TARGET - Meet Oscar! Certificate of attendance and reflective template

If you have attended the Wakefield District TARGET session on Wednesday 18th October and want to down load a certificate of attendance then click here.  For NHS appraisal purposes you don't need a certificate of attendance and your appraiser is more interested in your reflections about the training afternoon. What did you learn, how is it going to change your practice and what will you different in the future? To help you with these reflections I have added a short reflective template after the certificate of attendance.

Today in Wakefield ....

Today in Wakefield: Between 7,000 and 9,000 people will have an appointment with either their GP or Practice nurse 560 people will be seen in extra appointments funded by the CCG 340 people will visit the Emergency Department at Pinderfields or Pontefract Over the last five years there has been a small increase in the total number of consultations in general practice: As you can see from the graph the increase in consultations has been mainly nurse consultations with a reduction in GP consultations. This data comes from searching for appointments on GP practice computer systems across Wakefield. The data may or may not be 100% robust. It does not take into account practice list size growth, not all practices in Wakefield use SytemOne and not all practices will record and use appointments in the same way. There are 232 full time equivalent GPs and 150 full time equivalent GP Nurses in Wakefield. If today in Wakefield, one or two people can't get an appointment with th...
